Corinna Creates: Beadwork & Living Traditions
A contemporary practice grounded in relationship with the land

Greetings! I'm Corinna Stevenson (Acahk Miskinak Iskwew – Spirit Turtle Woman), a Métis woman, ecotherapist, educator, and ceremonialist. My roots are Métis, Scottish, Irish, and French, reaching the historic Métis communities of the Red River Valley, St. Boniface, and Turtle Mountain, carrying the family names Larocque, Caplette, Belisle, Beignet, McMillan, Dease, Turcotte, and Ranger.

At the heart of my nature-based practice is sit spot: returning regularly to the same place to observe, listen, and learn the rhythms of the living world. From this place, I create—through beadwork, storytelling, wildcraft, and handwork—always in relationship with the land. Each piece carries story, reflects care, and offers a gentle invitation to notice your own place in the world and the wildness within.

I am deeply grateful to the teachers and keepers of Indigenous and Métis knowledge who have generously shared their teachings, guiding my practice with generosity, wisdom, and care. Among them, Bruce Dumont, Mara Kersey, Kaija Heitland, Natalie Pepin, L.L. Lafontaine, Heather Souter, Dale McCreary, and Gail Welburn. I am also grateful to the North Island Métis community (my home community) and to the Métis Nation of BC for the work they do on behalf of their citizens.
